TENSES

Present tenses

am a farmer. I like farming. I grow vegetables. (present simple)

am growing tomatoes in this field. (present continuous)

have grown tomatoes in this field before. (present perfect)

I‘ve been growing tomatoes here for 2 years now. (present perfect continuous)

Past tenses

grew cucumbers here a few years ago. (past simple)

It was three years ago when I was growing cucumbers here. (past continuous)

had been growing corn on this field before growing cucumbers here. (past perfect continuous)

used to grow flowers here, but that was a long long time ago. (used to)

Future tenses

I think I'm going to grow tomatoes here again next year. (going to)

will grow cucumbers here again in a few years. (will)

will always be growing  some type of vegetable. (future continuous)


This is an important year for me. In the fall, when the season is over, I will have farmed on this land for 25 years.(future perfect)

My father, who is also a farmer, will celebrate with us, and he will have been farming in this area for 45 years. (future perfect continuous)

CONDITIONALS

Conditionals used for real situations and facts:

If you don't understand, you can ask for help. 

I will tell you the result if I hear about it.

If I know the words to the song, I sing them.

Conditionals used for unreal situations that have a small or impossible chance of happening:

If we wanted to go to the show, we would buy tickets.

If I took the job, I would make more money.

If you were to come to the party, I would give you a ride home.

would go with you if I wasn't so tired.


If we had wanted to go to the show, we would have bought tickets.

If I had taken the job, I would have made more money.

would have given you a ride home if you were to have come to the party.

If I hadn't been so tired, I would have gone with you.


wish we had gone to the show.

wish I made more money.

wish you would come to the party.

wish I wasn't tired.


If we had bought tickets, we would be going to the show tonight.

If I had taken the job, I would be making more money.

would give you a ride home if you were coming to the party.

If I had gone with you, I would be even more tired today.
