Conditional 1
CONDITIONAL 1
After IF (in conditional1), we use the present (not "will")
• If I‘m late this evening, don‘t wait for me.
• If I have some free time, I‘ll do my homework.
WHEN or IF?
- IF means something is possible
• If I have enough money, I‘ll buy the car.
- WHEN means "you‘re going to do it" (for sure)
• I‘ll do it when I come home.
You can use other conjuctions, not only IF:
- when, before, after, unless, until, in case, provided, etc… >>> the rule is the same: no future after them in conditional 1
• I‘ll have a shower before I go to work.
• I‘ll call you after I come home.
UNLESS, UNTIL
- Unless means IF NOT (it is negative, so you have to be careful!)
• They will not come unless you invite them. (not "you don‘t invite")
- Until means TILL NOT (it is also negative)
• She will wait until Jack comes. (not "Jack doesn't come”)
