Tenses review
PRESENT
- simple (used for everyday activities)
I go to work by car.
- continuous (used for things that you are doing at the moment)
She's sleeping now.
BE CAREFUL!
- there are verbs that cannot make the –ing form (want, know, believe, love, like, hate,etc.)
PAST
- simple (used for the general past)
I went to the cinema yesterday.
- continuous (used to describe things that lasted longer)
It was raining all night.
- simple and continuous are often used together
When I was going home, I met my teacher.
PRESENT PERFECT
- simple (used for things that finished and that are still important)
I have been to Mexico several times.
- continuous (used for activities that started in the past and are still taking place in the present)
I have been learning English for 5 years.
FUTURE
- will (used for spontaneous decisions)
I will help you. Give me your suitcase.
- going to (used for things that have been planned or for things that will most probably happen)
I'm going to study law next semester.
It's going to rain.
TIME CLAUSE (Conditional1)
- there is no future after if and when
If I have more time, I will call him.
