PHRASAL VERBS
- Phrasal verbs are very special verbs which consist of normal verbs and particles (prepositions, adverbs, …)
GO + UP …. GO UP
- Their meaning is sometimes very clear, but very often quite confusing
GO UP means INCREASE, RISE
GO OFF means EXPLODE
GET ON WITH means HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP
- They are very often used in spoken language, so you have to learn them
GO UP – increase
GO DOWN – decrease, fall
GO AFTER – follow
GO ON – continue
GO OFF – explode
GET ON – enter a bus / a train
GET OFF – leave a bus / a train
GET UP – get from your bed in the morning
GET ON WITH – have a good relationship with somebody
GET OVER – overcome (a problem)
TURN UP – volume up
TURN DOWN – volume down
TURN ON – start a machine
TURN OFF – finish work with a machine
TURN ROUND – turn to look back
