MAKING QUESTIONS

One of the most important things to make a good question is to use the correct tense:

• I've told him something. >>> What have you told him?

• We're going somewhere. >>> Where are you going?

• I caught the morning bus. >>> What did you catch?

Subject / object questions

I called somebody. >>> Who did you call?

– this is an object question. We need to ask about the object.

Somebody called me. >>> Who called you?

– this is a subject question. We ask about the subject.

– don't use DO / DID in subject questions!!!

Prepositions

What are you talking about?

Where was she from?

– prepositions come after the verb!

Question words

what, how, where, who, etc…

don't forget about WHOSE

• Whose car is it? >>>> It's mine.

This question is not a question

Do you know where she lives?

- "Do you know” is the question, "where she lives” is just a clause

Do you remember where she was from?

DON'T SAY: Do you remember where was she from?
