Czech swallows 10 liters to win beer-drinking competition
Qualifying for the contest probably wasn't hard. One had to down about a liter of beer in one gulp. For most people, this is a difficult task to accomplish, but for a good majority of Czechs, this was not impossible. After this warm-up, the arduous bout of elbow bending began.
The prize to this contest was 9000 CZK and also a reputation of gold in the Czech Republic. Who won this contest? A transportation officer who rarely imbibes and who usually doesn't take part in this sort of social activity. "I almost never drink and probably wouldn't have partaken in this contest had it not been for my wife,” said Jarda at the end of the contest.
Jarda was able to put away nearly 10 liters of brew on Saturday in a small village outside of Prague, Czech Republic. The contest was open to anyone who could quickly drain at least a liter of beer in one gulp. Many were able to clear that hurdle. Later, contestants had to completely down 3 liters in an hour.
Eight survivors remained by evening. The environment was incredibly amusing and entertaining. The rest of the drunken competitors were all put to bed by their wives. Two competitors were left by midnight when the winner was announced. The other competitor most definitely was upset at not wining the competition. "I am usually able to drink more,” he disappointedly told news commentators.
Czech beer is known internationally, and Czechs have one of the highest consumption rates in the world. They drink almost 170 liters each year. Czech beer usually comes in a 0,5 liter glass, and is thoroughly enjoyed by most Czechs and foreigners alike.
