MAN GOES TO PRISON FOR PLAYING TETRIS GAME
A newly married man was put in prison for four months after playing a game of Tetris on his mobile phone during the flight back from his honeymoon.
Faiz Chopdat, 23, of Blackburn, Lancashire, was returning from Luxor in Egypt to Manchester Airport on September the 10th last year when an airhostess saw him with his mobile phone switched on.
He was playing the popular game Tetris while sitting next to his wife.
He was warned twice by cabin staff and once by a passenger to switch off the phone.
Chopdat was found guilty of endangering the safety of an aircraft and got four months in prison.
Judge Timothy Mort thinks that all mobiles should be confiscated when passengers board an airplane. He said the switching on of a mobile was very dangerous for the autopilot and the communication system.
"It seems to me that anyone who leaves a mobile phone switched on creates some risk. Maybe it's time to consider if mobile phones should be confiscated before transit," the judge said.
"You turned the mobile on three times and you were given clear warnings from the cabin crew," he added.
Roger Hedgeland, Mr Chopdat's lawyer, said his client was a young man with no previous criminal problems who made a mistake on his return from honeymoon and after he was arrested he became very depressed.
