Making questions

MAKING QUESTIONS

– when you make a question, you always need to be careful about the tense.

Compare:

• What does she say?

• Where are you going?

• What will you do?

- prepositions come after verbs (usually the end of the sentence):

• What are you talking about? (not: About what…?)

• Who are you looking for? (not: For who…?)

SUBJECT QUESTIONS

- be careful about SUBJECT questions, which do not use DO / DID. They ask about the subject:

• Who told you about it? (Answer: Jack told me.)

• What happened? (Answer: A terrible thing happened.)

Compare:

• Who does Paul love? (Answer: Paul loves Jane.)

• Who loves Paul? (Answer: Jessica loves Paul.)
