THE WAY HOME

In July, Jane and I usually go to Austria. So we went there also last July. The holiday in the mountains was just perfect. We stayed there for two weeks. Before we left, we bought some souvenirs. At 9 in the morning we got in the car and started on our way home.
Everything was ok at first. We went downhill, then a bit uphill and then downhill again. We were going along the main road and we were talking about our holiday.
Then suddenly Jane said: "Frank, it's almost four o'clock and we aren't near the border yet!" That was really strange. We stopped for a while and looked at the map. We got lost!!! We were driving in the opposite direction.
So we turned back. In the evening it started to rain. It was raining cats and dogs! We didn't see anything and we almost crashed.
Then finally, there was the border in front of us. After twelve hours of driving we arrived at the border. We were very happy.
The customs officers looked very angry. There were some problems with a Greek bus. They wanted to see our passports. We looked into the bags but they were not there! "Your passports, please," said one of the men in green uniforms. We looked into another bag, we looked into our suitcases, but our passports weren't there.
"If you don't have your passports, please get out of your car," the officer said rather angrily.
We left our passports on the reception desk in the morning. Jane started to cry. Ooops, it was a very bad return home.
