A HARD DAY

When Jerry got up on Tuesday, he didn't know how difficult that day would be. He had his breakfast – a cup of coffee and a delicious chocolate croissant / krəˈsɑnt /. After breakfast he went to the garage. He got in the car and wanted to start the engine. He turned the key in the starter but there was no sound of the engine getting started. He tried again and again, but it didn't help. 'It's probably the battery,' he thought. He looked at his watch. It was 8:50! He had an important meeting at his office in half an hour!

He called a taxi. It arrived in ten minutes. The driver was very short, fat and old. And slow, of course! At first, he wanted luggage. 'I have no luggage,' said Jeremy. 'No luggage?' The taxi driver was evidently very surprised. 'I thought you wanted to get to the airport. So I thought you would have some luggage,' the driver explained.
Jeremy told him he just wanted to get to his office. The driver had big difficulties finding the street in his taxi map. When they finally left Jeremy's driveway, it was already 9:15! Just 5 minutes before the meeting.
The driver drove very badly. The radio was on and he sang some pop songs. At the crossroads he forgot to give way to a truck coming from the right and it crashed into them. Fortunately, nobody was injured.
Jeremy got to his office at 11! His business partners didn't wait for him and Jeremy lost a very good contract.
